ICYMI: Michelle Lujan Grisham’s Sixth Candidate Debate with Her Opponent Aired Today

Michelle participated in the sixth candidate debate with her opponent, which aired today on KNME-TV on “Report from Santa Fe.” Michelle’s opponent consistently refused to answer pointed questions from Michelle about Medicare, saying the TV debate wasn’t the place to discuss the issue.

If she can’t take a stand during a candidate debate, what would she do in Congress?

Michelle’s opponent has fully embraced the Ryan Plan throughout this campaign, but when asked by Michelle if she favors turning Medicare into a voucher program, which the Ryan Plan does, she waffled. She even went so far as to say that “Well this is not where we are ready to debate it.”

And then she said: “I don’t want to start on the budget discussion as to whether or not we are going to go there.”

This isn’t leadership! Elections are about having a debate about ideas between the competing candidates. Through six debates, it’s clear that only Michelle is strong in her convictions and willing to take a stand on tough issues.

Michelle was clear and decisive during this debate, saying she will never compromise on Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, and will do everything needed to protect middle class families. She talked about real solutions that provide better health care access, better outcomes and reduced costs. She talked about how, throughout our history, investing in growth has been the cornerstone of economic recovery, not destroying the safety net.

Michelle’s seventh debate with her opponent is live on Tuesday, October 9 at 7:00 pm on KNME-TV. The debate is hosted by Sam Donaldson.
